After cutting away all the waste, a small void was revealed a little to the right of the area closest to the neck of the instrument. Here I've glued in a small piece of wood to fill the void. Next will be to inlay a small piece of matching wood to cover the fault - hopefully invisibly, at least when coloured and polished.
