F Hole Cutting

This new instalment of the Gofriller Double-Bass construction saga picks up from where son Ed and I quit some time in early 2013. Making this bass is primarily a father/son project, but Ed is now 28, soon to be 29, and lives in Kentish Town in London, where he is studying law, and his occasional visits home don’t always leave much time for musical instrument making. However, his visit before Christmas saw quite a bit accomplished—so much so that I’ve continued working on it without him into 2015….

The F holes have been marked out from a template; most of the waste has been cut away with a rather dull fretsaw, but the  pocket knife that Ed is using has been properly sharpened and honed. To help with the cutting, I’ve marked the direction of cut relative to grain direction. We’ve reached the no-error zone:
